Welcome to Junior High Science!
Students in the Jr High Science classes will learn a variety of different topics in Earth/Space Science (6th grade), Life Science (7th grade) and Physical Science ( 8th grade).
Students will use hands on activities, research and personal data collection to explore concepts in science and to gain a better understanding of how and why the world around them works.
Mrs. Collins greatly enjoys teaching adventures in Science to the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at St. John Regional School. She has been a member of the faculty since 2014 and is in her 9th year as a Catholic school teacher.
Her teaching career began over 27 years ago, first as a special educator in a self contained classroom and then as a science teacher. She brings her passion for curiosity in all areas of science, as well as her enthusiasm for personal learning to her students. She earned her Masters degree in Education in 2011, and continues to explore new teaching methods as well as her own interest in science topics such as Marine biology and how it is being affected by our changing climate.
At St John Regional School, Mrs. Collins teaches topics such as; the functions of the smallest organelles of the cell, how to solve a mystery by investigating the matter of a crime scene, and how to explore the simple cause and effect of what happens to trash if left in your back yard over winter.
Mrs. Collins teaches students many different uses of technology in the classroom and hosts a Jr. High Tech Club in the winter. She has also authored three books that were inspired by lessons and discussions with science students at St. John Regional School.
